Transportation Tuesday TRANSPORTATION TUESDAY Driving is not a contest. Try to stay calm and forget about winning. Everyday driving is not about winning but being safe! Today most drivers get agitated quickly because they are impatient, in a hurry, stressed, frustrated or cant deal with the traffic congestion. Yes, they put other drivers in danger and are inconsiderate, but retaliating will not solve the problem.

Transportation Tuesday Stay focused and make every attempt to stay out of their way. Avoid eye contact with the driver. This is what the aggressive driver wants. Dont turn an impersonal traffic encounter into a personal dispute. Smile, be courteous and ignore gestures. Some drivers use rude gestures and words. Dont take it personally and dont be tempted to respond. Forget about pride and think about your safety. Avoid any confrontations and challenges. If possible, get the vehicle number and report it to the police. You can help the traffic police eliminate aggressive driving behaviour! Instead….

Transportation Tuesday What do aggressive drivers do? It is easy to spot aggressive drivers. They… usually disobey traffic rules and signals. tailgate. drive on the shoulder of the road. drive fast and exceed the speed limit. weave in and out of traffic. fail to indicate. cut corners, drive the wrong way and block intersections. honk repeatedly, use rude gestures and yell. cut off other drivers. Spot the aggressive driver..

Transportation Tuesday There are different types of aggressive drivers…. Speeders who want to get to their destination as fast as possible. Passive aggressive drivers who view driving events as a win/lose situation. Conceited drivers who get angry with drivers who dont drive the way they want them to. Vigilant drivers who believe they have the right to teach other drivers a lesson. Competitors-always wanting to win and be first. Avoid them and avoid becoming one too!

Transportation Tuesday Next time a driver cuts you off in traffic, convince yourself that the driver did not necessarily make an error to upset you. Angry drivers are always looking for a reason to validate their anger. Dont give them a reason. Remember two wrongs dont make a right! A driver probably had a bad day at work and may be inattentive. Be courteous and let the driver pass. You could probably change his/her driving attitude. Apply your defensive driving skills. Keep a look out for hidden and potential dangers- especially aggressive drivers. Driving tips
