7 PHS Eligibility Policy
KSHSAA Rule Students must pass at least FIVE classes in the previous semester in order to participate in extracurricular activities Students must be enrolled in FIVE new classes each semester of participation PHS Eligibility Rules Grade reports are run each week Students must be passing ALL classes in order to attend or participate in extracurricular activities.

Institution Requirements Kansas Board of Regents Qualified Admissions for: Emporia State Fort Hays State Kansas State Pittsburg State Wichita State 4 Credits of English 4 Credits of Math OR 3 Credits of Math and Score of 22 on ACT Math 3 Credits of Social Studies 3 Credits of Science (w/ 1 Credit being either Chemistry or Physics) 3 Credits of Electives *All courses must be approved by KBoR KU All requirements above PLUS: 3.0 GPA and 24 on ACT (1090 on SAT) 3.25 GPA AND 21 on ACT (980 on SAT)

English I or Honors English I MAP scores will determine eligibility for Honors English 1 Honors is faster paced; 5 more books; must maintain 80% Oral Communications: Graduation requirement Taken as schedule allows

13 Freshmen Course Options: Math
Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 with Math Lab MAP scores will determine enrollment in Math Lab support Double-blocked math; receives math instruction five days a week Honors Geometry or Regular Geometry Honors Geometry is a weighted course MAP scores will determine enrollment eligibility

14 Freshmen Course Options: Science
Biology Automatic enrollment for Freshmen Honors Biology Honors Biology is a weighted course MAP Reading scores will determine enrollment eligibility

15 Freshmen Course Options: Social Studies
World Studies Emphasis on world geography, cultural knowledge, and current events Designed to prepare students for future Social Studies courses Graduation requirement

16 Freshmen Course Options: Electives
Course Descriptions Please read course descriptions carefully when choosing electives Be aware of prerequisite coursework for elective courses Note: Our French courses are distance learning classes taught by an instructor who is usually off site.

17 Tips for Course Selection
Choose Regular vs. Honors Courses Carefully Check requirements for applying for Honors courses. MAP scores are strictly adhered to. Choose Elective Courses Carefully Read course descriptions carefully. Be careful to note any required prerequisites for elective courses. Again, choose wisely. There are very limited options for changing schedules if you change your mind.

18 Important Enrollment Dates:
February 5/6-Course Selections at the Middle School Have your Course Selection Form with you as you will need it to request classes. It MUST be signed by a parent/guardian.
