Most city states of Ancient Greece were monarchies. A monarchy is when a person gets power because their parents had power. A city state is a city that is also a country. Two most famous city states were Sparta and Athens. The reason why Greece was not unified is because mountains divided them. All city states were polytheistic, had slaves, and spoke the Greek language. Athens is considered the first democracy. Democracy is when people can vote.
