Daily literacy lessons based on good quality children’s books Daily Maths lessons Daily Guided Reading Spelling and Punctuation lessons[SPaG] Handwriting lessons A broad curriculum which develops skills and knowledge in a wide range of subjects: Science, ICT, French, Geography, History, RE Art, DT, Music, PE, Enterprise

4 Writing Expectations Pupils to write independently for a range of purposes and audiences as part of their work across the curriculum. Pupils monitor whether their own writing makes sense checking and editing as needed. Demonstrate with a big book and suggest how to read it – T to model reading a bedtime book

5 Spelling Expectations
At the end of year 6 pupils should be able to spell correctly most words from the year 5 and 6 spelling list to be at the expected standard for writing. Demonstrate with a big book and suggest how to read it – T to model reading a bedtime book

6 By Year 6 pupils should have a neat, joined handwriting style.
They should be able to maintain legibility in joined handwriting when writing at speed, so that problems with forming letters do not get in the way of writing down what they want to say. Handwriting should continue to be taught, with the aim of increasing the fluency.   Demonstrate with a big book and suggest how to read it – T to model reading a bedtime book

7 There are three standards in this framework:
Writing Expectations At the end of key stage 2 pupils writing will be assessed against the English writing framework. There are three standards in this framework: Working towards the expected standard Working at the expected standard Working at greater depth Each standard contains a number of ‘pupil can’ statements. To judge that a pupil is working at a standard in writing, teachers need to have evidence which demonstrates that the pupil meets the standard described overall. 8 Maths Expectations Children should be able to recall the multiplication tables up to and including 12x12 by the end of year 4. Demonstrate with a big book and suggest how to read it – T to model reading a bedtime book

9 Reading Expectations Pupils should read independently age appropriate books with accuracy and at a reasonable pace. They should be able to read most words effortlessly and have secure strategies to read new and unfamiliar words Pupils should read and discuss an increasingly wide range of fiction, poetry, plays, non-fiction and reference books or textbooks Demonstrate with a big book and suggest how to read it – T to model reading a bedtime book

10 The standard is either met or not met.
Science Expectations At the end of key stage 2 pupils writing will be assessed against the Science framework. The standard is either met or not met. The standard in this framework contains a number of ‘pupil can’ statements. Pupils need to meet all of the statements in the framework to reach the expected standard. Demonstrate with a big book and suggest how to read it – T to model reading a bedtime book

11 Working below the expected standard
Year 6 SAT’s Tests At the end of key stage 2 pupils will sit tests for English reading, maths and SPaG [spelling, punctuation and grammar]. In these tests pupils will either be: Working at the expected standard or Working below the expected standard The government are expecting 85% of children to be working at expected standards. 12 Children’s tests are marked and a raw score given.
Scaled Scores Children’s tests are marked and a raw score given. The pupil’s raw score is translated into a scaled score using a conversion table. A scaled score of 100 will always represent the expected standard on the KS2 test. Demonstrate with a big book and suggest how to read it – T to model reading a bedtime book

14 Behaviour for Learning
Ensure your child has all the things they need and are ready to learn [Good nights sleep and breakfast] Children need to be active learners. They need to listen, participate in lessons, work hard and have a go.

15 Ensure your child reads their book for at least 25minutes.
Supporting Learning Ensure your child reads their book for at least 25minutes. Ask questions and talk to them about their book to develop their comprehension. Continue to support your child to learn their weekly spellings and times tables. Support with the learning of Number Wizard.

16 Home learning What your child will be learning about each term is sent home and published on the school website. Talk about their day and take an interest in their learning. Encourage your child to try some of the home learning opportunities that have been suggested by the teacher and bring into school work they have completed. Every child has an Espresso login paid for by the school which enables them to access a wide range of interactive learning activities and information. Encourage them to use this resource.
