2 Don’t be afraid…

3 Cautioned not to worship…
Col 2:18  Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,

4 Warned not to be deceived…
2Co 11:14  No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

5 Instructed how to respond…
Gal 1:8  But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!

6 The most important thing to remember about angels though, is not the response they provoke, but the reason they were sent.

7 Both words simply mean “messenger.”
The most important thing to remember about angels though, is not the response they provoke, but the reason they were sent. The Hebrew word for an angel is “mal-ach.” The Greek word is “angelos.” Both words simply mean “messenger.”

8 Don’t be afraid… Luke 1:13  But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.

9 Don’t be afraid… God hears your prayers
Luke 1:13  But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John. God hears your prayers

10 Don’t be afraid… Luke 1:18-20  Zacharias said to the angel, "How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years."  19  The angel answered and said to him, "I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.  20  "And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time."

12 Don’t be afraid… 20  "And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time."

14 Fruitful prayers Joh 15:16  "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

15 Fruitful prayers “The logical connection between the two parts of this verse are tremendously important… You would expect the verse to be just the reverse: God will give you what you ask in order that you might have a fruit-bearing mission. But Jesus says it the other way around: I give you a fruit-bearing mission in order that the Father might answer your prayers.” —Pastor John Piper

16 James gives us three reasons why our prayers are not answered:
We don’t ask Jas 4:2b-3  …You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

17 James gives us three reasons why our prayers are not answered:
We don’t ask We don’t ask believing Jas 1:6-8  But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.  For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

18 James gives us three reasons why our prayers are not answered:
We don’t ask We don’t ask believing We don’t ask for the purpose of bearing fruit. Jas 4:2b-3  …You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

19 James gives us three reasons why our prayers are not answered:
We don’t ask We don’t ask believing We don’t ask for the purpose of bearing fruit. Our prayers are more comfort driven than Kingdom driven.

20 Don’t be afraid… Mat 21:22  "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

21 Don’t be afraid… 1John 5:14  This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

22 Don’t be afraid… Luke 1:30  The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

23 Don’t be afraid… Luke 1:30  The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. Luke 1:28  And coming in, he said to her, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you."

24 Luke 1:31-38  "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.  32  "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;  33  and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end."  34  Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?"

25  35  The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.  36  "And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

26 37 "For nothing will be impossible with God
37  "For nothing will be impossible with God."  38  And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

27 Respond with surrender

28 We stand in favor Rom 5:2  through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.

29 A favor given without measure
Ephesians 4:7  But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift.

30 A favor extended for a purpose
2Ti 1:9  who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

31 A favor extended for a purpose
2Co 9:8  And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;

32 A favor not to be received in vain
2Co 6:1  And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain—

33 A favor for all men Titus 2:11  For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
