4 Study Blocks Grade 12s can now apply for a study block
Decisions made every Friday starting Oct 12 Forms can be picked up in the counselling office Make sure your university research is done Not eligible for gold cord at commencement UBC likes depth and breadth in a program so be careful not to go too light Continue to attend class until confirmation is given that spare was approved

5 PSAT Practice SAT Wednesday, October 10th 8:30 am to noon C303
Maximum 20 students can write Register in office for $20

8 Community Connections
30 hours work experience is required to graduate Hours can be paid or volunteer Hours must be completed in Grade 10 to 12 Hours must be completed in Canada Hours must be verified by service hour form, pay stub or T4 Leadership, Peer Helping and Work Experience hours count

9 Daily Physical Activities
150 minutes of physical activity must be completed weekly during your grade 12 year Requirement satisfied by PE 12, Yoga 12 or Dance 12 Activities must be moderate to high intensity – walking to school does not count

10 Scholarships: 4 types General Requirements: Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant Eligible for graduation and enrolled in a BC school International students have some scholarships available University Entrance Scholarships Most are automatic based on admission average or by application to university Check due dates on websites (UBC: Dec 1, SFU: Jan 15)

Over 30 available One application Applications available in January, due in March External Scholarships Students are responsible for researching and applying on their own List on counselling website Transcripts are available in counselling office Some are by nomination only (Loran, Schulich, PEO)

12 Scholarships: 4 types Provincial Scholarships Program
Provincial Scholarships Program District Dogwood Scholarships - $1250 Available for exceptionality in non-academic areas (Art, Culinary, Trades, Athletics, Languages, Service, ) Chosen by WVSS Scholarship Committee BC Achievement Scholarship - $1250 (8000) No application Based on marks in grade 10 – 12 (required and electives) Must have percentage marks (no TS) for grade BC Excellence Scholarship - $5000 (1 nominated by school) Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship - $5000 (20) Apply directly to Ministry of Education by Feb 15

Apply BC, OUAC, Apply Alberta or direct application (McGill, Dalhousie etc) Complete Broad based portion (UBC, Queens, Waterloo, business programs etc) Step 2: Report Marks UBC, UVic: self-report term 2 SFU: self-report term 1 or 2 Most out of province: self-report or transcript for term 1 or 2 We will cover mark reporting in more detail later Step 3: Post Secondary Intuition Form (PSI) Student Transcript Service Will be done in Grad Trans class

You need to decide now: Which Universities or Colleges will I apply to What Faculty? UBC Faculties Research deadlines, English requirements Is there a Broad-based Application? Do I have required courses, what courses will be used for my admission average Continue your research!!! Show UBC faculty list as an example. Explain how majors work. Explain first year is general.
