3 About TCC & Position Responsibilities
Our Mission: Why are we here? TCC creates meaningful and relevant learning, inspires greater equity, and celebrates success in our lives and our communities. Position Responsibilities: Develop learning outcomes, goals, and a strategic plan for a curricular leadership education program model. Assist in advising Student Activities and supervising Student Leadership teams.

4 Position Description Work Plan Objectives
Conduct research and provide suggestions that would inform the development of a curricular leadership education program model. Conduct a professional presentation on a curricular leadership model to students and administrators at Tacoma Community College. Assist with Student Activities and support Student Leadership Teams.

5 Best Practices Nationally Regionally
Moving beyond a hierarchical approach. Leadership is a process, not a possession Communication skills, management skills, accountability, creative & critical thinking, and understanding multiple perspectives The importance of self-awareness and its relationship with leadership Group dynamics and team building components to promote community engagement Moving beyond a hierarchical approach

6 CAS Standards The mission must be to prepare students to engage in the process of leadership. The curriculum should promote student learning and development. Promote collaboration, coherent values, and appreciation of diversity. Reflective on the program and adequate use of assessment tools.

7 Development of Mission and LO’s
Our mission is to provide a context to develop effective leadership skills sufficient to participate in leadership on campus and in the community. Learning Outcomes Students will identify their personal communication style Ability to understand and identify personal leadership preferences Ability to self-reflect and implement developed skills Understand and appreciate diverse interests, leadership and communication styles

8 Implications for My Professional Development
Understanding students and student issues Understanding that each campus and student population is different. What works on one campus may not work on all. Developing and demonstrating skills in leadership and collaboration Collaboration with other professionals on campus is key to providing students with the best services. Communicating effectively in speech and in writing Clear and concise writing . Having the ability to make a statement in a way that is clear and to the point.
