2. Overview
As we are getting into digitalization and AI phase of technology, it is very important to discover Next-Gen utilities to improvise the existing software’s. We are already in the phase of voice search and voice to text...etc, so we have to remove the manual intervention as much as we can. The ‘Next-Gen test extractor’ is one of the utility developed to improve the user interface and flexibility to download test cases from ALM to an Excel.
Now a day’s users are more attracted with ‘Three-click rules’. It suggests that a user of a website should be able to find any information with no more than three mouse clicks. This utility has very minimal clicks to fetch the tests in required format and no manual interaction with code. The above dialogue box is one of the pop up of “Next-Gen test extractor” which helps user to select the fields and gives flexibility to order as per their requirement. The export will be based on the selected field and the defined order.

User can export test cases based on defined Test Plan folder structure
Test case will be exported from all the sub-folders of the specified folder structure
Rich and flexible forms to select and order required fields from the pool.
Secured and only users with permissions to ALM can download test cases

4. Advantages
Bulk test case update
It would be easy for a BA to review test case in Excel rather doing in ALM.
It helps to reduce the number of ALM licenses as the test cases can be modified and reviewed through excel.
Any new person/fresher’s can use this tool to export test cases as they will not have hands on to test management tool.
Helps in migration of test cases into another test management tool
Can utilize all the excel feature to organise and modify the test cases.
Test cases changes can be easily imported back to HP ALM using Excel add in.

7. 2. Enter valid ALM credentials, select Domain and Project from the list then click on Login:

8. 3. Click on update field to select the fields from the list.

9. 4. Select the fields from available list and use arrows to move it to selected list. Order the fields using up and down arrows.

10. 5. Test cases from the selected folders will be download into excel and excel will open automatically.
