Agency Cathy McGhee – Director of Transportation Innovation and Research Hari Sripathi – Office of Strategic Innovation Garrett Moore – Planned retirement Fall 2019 Recruiting Chief of Maintenance & Operations Will oversee Maintenance, Operations & Emergency Management, Traffic Engineering, Land Use and Asset Management Recruiting Director of Safety & Security Office Operations & Emergency Management Division Ali Farhangi George Gardner Joshua Byrd Robert Rabe Regional Operations Tim Martin – Regional Transportation Operations Manager (RTOM) SW Region to recruit Systems Manager, which will report to RTOM Cathy: provide strategic direction for innovation and research across the Transportation Secretariat. Also responsible for strategic partnerships between universities, state agencies and organizations for transportation modernizations and improvements. Focus areas include: Data and analytics Automated Virginia (unmanned systems) Broadband and fiber (expand broadband to increase economic competitiveness and enable connected transportation)

The ITTF continues to provide funding specifically for the purposes of funding pilot programs and fully developed initiatives pertaining to high-tech infrastructure improvements with a focus on: Reducing congestion Improving mobility Improving safety Providing up-to-date travel data Improving emergency response Information on CTB website

VDOT Business Plan VDOT’s Business Plan establishes nine Agency goals:
Execute the program Maintain the infrastructure Ensure a sustainable pipeline of projects Operate our system efficiently Develop & maintain a highly trained workforce Be transparent Manage the business Be innovative Be safe The three highlighted goals are largely addressed by VDOT’s Traffic & Operations program.

Innovation Assess the capability to provide broadband to underserved regions Partner with private sector to develop traffic management and data sharing strategies that improve quality while reducing cost Implement infrastructure‐light solutions (LED lighting, long range/low power wireless communications) Develop a risk‐based work plan to address network security issues, including updated authentication processes and cyber security training Safety Develop and implement distracted driving campaigns Implement the VDOT Pedestrian Safety Action Plan Improve qualitative crash analysis capabilities

Deployment and Systems Management Statewide ATMS deployed in 4 of 5 Regions, Eastern Region to be deployed this year Pursuing cash value in addition to communications infrastructure in Fiber Resource Sharing Agreements ITS Maintenance Services Base contract with Elite (East) & DTS (West) through July 2021 Transitioned ITS Maintenance Management System from Maximo to CalemEAM Agile for ATMS deployment. Good performance. Appreciate resilience of both contractors in restoring massive outages during major weather events. Over 500 devices down in ERO during TS Michael.

SmarterRoads 800+ accounts created to date 28 data feeds available, new feeds under consideration Office of Strategic Innovation developing an integrated framework that considers data, technology, security and communications VDOT completed an Operational Technology Cyber Security assessment and will be addressing potential vulnerabilities These will influence SmarterRoads go-forward strategy
