1 Management Frame Channel Access Latency in TGh
March 2002 doc.: IEEE /xxx March 2002 Management Frame Channel Access Latency in TGh J. Del Prado, A. Soomro and S. Choi [amjad.soomro, sunghyun.choi, J. Del Prado, A. Soomro & S. Choi, Philips J. Del Prado, A. Soomro & S. Choi, Philips

2 Introduction Current Management Frame Issues Proposed Changes
March 2002 Introduction Current Management Frame Issues Latency Proposed Changes Conclusions J. Del Prado, A. Soomro & S. Choi, Philips

3 The Current Management Frame
March 2002 The Current Management Frame The current draft uses Action Frames Before transmission need to contend for medium No prioritized Access J. Del Prado, A. Soomro & S. Choi, Philips

4 Issues Fast Channel access is important
March 2002 Issues Fast Channel access is important Regulatory reasons To stop transmissions quickly To announce channel switch swiftly To perform measurements instantly Latency is a issue Immediate  IMMEDIATE DCF channel contention Could be relatively long periods depending on network traffic ‘Immediately’ as good as channel access latency J. Del Prado, A. Soomro & S. Choi, Philips

5 Proposed Changes Add the following text:
March 2002 Proposed Changes Add the following text: The AP is permitted to send Spectrum Management Action Frames, without performing backoff, after determining the WM to be idle for one PIFS period. J. Del Prado, A. Soomro & S. Choi, Philips

6 March 2002 Example Usage In DCF mode of operation, AP needs to announce channel switch information quickly Access the channel after PIFS quiet period and send Spectrum Management Action Frame immediately AP can send the frame multiple times, each separated by PIFS idle time, to increase the odds of its correct reception by STAs. In DCF mode AP can send Measurement Frame to do measurements immediately and these can occur immediately. J. Del Prado, A. Soomro & S. Choi, Philips

7 Conclusions Latency issue identified in the current draft.
March 2002 Conclusions Latency issue identified in the current draft. Important for regulatory reasons A solution proposed Simple solution J. Del Prado, A. Soomro & S. Choi, Philips
