2 Conservation Agronomy, (definition, Fundamental Consideration, objectives, role and scope)

3 AGRONOMY The science which deals with principles and practices of field crop production and soil management. OR The science of growing plants for creating on farm opportunities for environmental protection and ecosystem management.

4 CONSERVATION AGRONOMY
The branch of Agronomy that deals with study of conserving soil and water. The study that shows how to use soil and water resources effectively to attain maximum profit for long time by maintaining soil and water losses to minimum level.

5 Concepts Soil & water are the main concerns of this subject
Soil is important because It provides nutrients to the plants It provides mechanical support to the plants Water is important because it is the main requirement of life

6 Why to Conserve? Population increasing so the food requirements also increasing. Soil and water being polluted. Soil is being depleted by erosion. Water scarcity increasing.

7 Objectives Runoff: Infiltration: Usually Decreased
Increased in Water Harvesting Infiltration: Usually increased Decreased in Water Harvesting

8 CONSERVATION SOIL CONSERVATION
It is the act of using land within the limits of economic practiability, according to its capabilities and its needs to keep it permanently productive. WATER CONSERVATION The act of using water in such a way to attain maximum production for maximum time.

9 Soil Conservation Methods
Crop Rotation Avoid erosion Restorative crops Green Manuring Fallowing of land Mulching Deep Ploughing

10 Water Conservation Methods
Lining of canals Construction of water reservoirs e:g kalabagh dam Terracing Contouring Bund making

11 ROLE Water storage for future Help in increasing yeild
Maximum production per unit area per unit input Improve the nutrient status in soil Help to minimize erosion

12 SCOPE Govt. is Interested now
A separate Directorate was Founded (Soil & Water Conservation Department) Head Office in Rawalpindi Sub Offices in Jehlum Khushab Attok Mianwali
