3 Vocabulary Eclipse – The blocking or partial blocking of the Suns light by either the Moon or the Earth. Solar Eclipse – When the Moon blocks the light of the Sun from reaching the Earth. Only occurs at a “New Moon” phase. Lunar Eclipse – When the Earth blocks the light of the Sun from reaching the Moon. Only occurs at a “Full Moon” phase. Umbra - The inner, darker part of a shadow. Penumbra – The lighter, outer part of a shadow cone. Corona – Visible part of the Suns atmosphere. Only visible during a Total Eclipse.
