Isaiah 6:5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

9 God is so perfect, beautiful, and holy that
sin cannot be welcomed into His Presence and is repulsive to Him.

11 Exodus 19: 4-5 4 “You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.”

in all of His awesomeness and all of His beauty the people WANTED to obey Him.

15 The laws given in Exodus 20 give us the “how” to change our lives, but the vision of God in Exodus 19 gives us the desire to go there.

If having such a transforming vision of God’s beauty and grace is needed for us to really change…. How do we find it in today’s world?

18 The mountain in Exodus 19, as glorious as it was,
was just a dim shadow of another mountain where God’s saving power would be revealed to all mankind.

19 1,200 years after Mount Sinai;
Jesus would climb Mount Calvary to display God’s glory: Darkness covered the land - The “lightning” of God’s wrath struck Jesus

20 We had violated the boundaries set by God, and Jesus paid for
those ‘transgressions.’ The fire of God’s wrath burned through Jesus until it consumed him. Jesus trumpeted with his last words: “It is finished!”

21 At the cross, Jesus willingly took the cup of God’s Wrath towards our sinfulness and drank it all the way to the bottom, turned it over and declared: “It is finished!”

22 Our fascination with idols is snapped.
When we view Jesus as He is and stand in awe of what He has done for us: Our desire for sin is broken. Our fascination with idols is snapped.

23 The Problem isn’t that our desire
for sin is so strong. The Problem is that our desire for God is so weak.

24 When His Presence is so beautiful to us, When His Love
When His Glory is so large to us, When His Presence is so beautiful to us, When His Love is so precious to us, We will desire Him more than anything.

26 Hebrews 12: 2-3 2 “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
