2 Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) at GSFC:
Focuses on building an inclusive work environment where each employee feels valued and can contribute to their full potential to maximize mission success Mission Statement: Enabling inclusion, innovation and creativity by leveraging the diversity of thought, perspectives, backgrounds, and talents inherent in our workforce to ensure the advancement in science, technology, aeronautics, and space exploration. GSFC Diversity and Inclusion GSFC Diversity and Inclusion Program LGBTAC, NDP, and VAC D&I Directorate Roadshows Inclusion Initiatives Power & Privilege Training Series Diversity Dialogue Project Center and WFF Diversity and Inclusion Committee Directorate D&I Support GSFC D&I Strategic Implementation Plan

3 Advisory Committees Represent:
African Americans Asian and Pacific Americans Hispanic Americans Individuals with Disabilities Native Americans Women Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender employees New and Developing Professionals Veterans Although the AC’s represent specific constituencies they all work together on behalf of all employees at Goddard to make the work environment more equitable and inclusive for all. Some examples of the impact of AC’s initiatives include the following: AC representatives participate on award selection boards for the Center AC representatives participated ion the working group with management to develop the new non-competitive promotion process AC’s participate in community partnerships and external outreach to the next generation and the local community AC’s have been tasked by the Center Director to work on special projects. Recently the NDP was asked to develop new ideas for increasing collaboration between Greenbelt and WFF as well as recommend ideas to leverage virtual tools.

Overarching drivers are Accountability and Engagement Every employee is responsible for demonstrating respectful/inclusive behavior Maximize the talent and contributions of each employee & The unique characteristics, perspectives and life experiences that define us as individuals Fostering an environment where all individuals contribute fully and feel valued, engaged and supported to reach their full potential SPEAKER NOTES: This chart reflects the Goddard definitions for Diversity and Inclusion. At Goddard we define diversity as: The unique characteristics, perspectives and life experiences that define us as individuals. We define Inclusion as: Fostering an environment where all individuals contribute fully and feel valued, engaged and supported to reach their full potential. Inclusion maximizes the talent and contributions of each employee It’s not “either or” it is “and”; one can’t work with out the other. Focus on the “AND”! Fostering Inclusion maximizes the talent and contributions of each employee. Research by Scott Paige (wrote the book “The Difference”), Robin Ely (Author of several articles related to the value of Diversity and workplace teams) and others have shown that Diversity and Inclusion are interrelated and both are necessary. Inclusion leverages the potential of diversity in order to achieve greater creativity and innovation within a team/organization.
