JAIN Academic Bowl 2019 Moderator Information

2 Introduction JAB is for learning and fun – it is also competitive!
As a moderator, we hope you have fun too! Please refer to the Rules Document and Slides (which we will go over as well after this) as it will be important for you to know them. We will go over some of the key points that you need to know.

3 Important Timings Round 1 After 5 Seconds – you say “Answer Please”
2 Seconds later – you call Time If you call Time – that’s it – no more answers accepted If the question bounces to the 2nd team – they have 2 seconds to start answering Anagrams cannot bounce and their timings are as follows: After 15 seconds read the 1st clue 5 seconds later (20 second mark) read the 2nd clue 5 seconds later (25 second mark) – call Time

4 Buzzer Round No conferring allowed
After 3 Seconds – you say “Answer Please” 2 Seconds later – you call Time If you call Time – that’s it – no more answers accepted If the question bounces to the 2nd team – they have 3 seconds to buzz in and you can complete the question if it was not read in its entirety Please announce the category clearly especially if it is letter of alphabet e.g. D as in David or B as in Boy Please announce 2-part, 3-part question before reading if it has multiple parts

5 Final Tips Please speak slowly and clearly
For Anagrams – please read each letter slowly During the buzzer rounds, stop speaking after you hear that someone has buzzed in If a contestant’s answer is not clear, you can ask them to repeat or clarify the answer or elaborate. This is at your discretion. Your decision is final and binding. If you need help from other individuals on Admin team to settle a question or protest, please reach out.
