1 Ignorance The Holy Scriptures place a premium on knowledge.
John 8:31-32; 2 Timothy 2:15-17 An additional sermon on ignorance, added to a sermon preached on June 26, 2011 PM Based on additional material from an article written by Mark Mayberry in June of 2006. Article appeared in the Spiritual Sword, July 16, 2006 Print Slides: 1,4,13

2 John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

3 2 Timothy 2:15-17 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer.

4 Ignorance Ignorance, however, is declared to be a distinct danger.
Hosea 4:6; Romans 1:28-32

5 Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

6 Romans 1:28-32 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

7 Ignorance of God’s Truths
God’s Kindness and Righteousness Romans 2:4-11 (Read); Romans 10:1-3

8 Romans 10:1-3 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.

9 Ignorance of God’s Truths
God’s Kindness and Righteousness Romans 2:4-11 (Read); Romans 10:1-3 The Nature of Conversion Romans 6:1-4

10 Romans 6:1-4 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

11 Ignorance of God’s Truths
God’s Kindness and Righteousness Romans 2:4-11 (Read); Romans 10:1-3 The Nature of Conversion Romans 6:1-4 The Jurisdiction of the Law Romans 7:1-4

12 Romans 7:1-4 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? 2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. 4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another--to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.

13 Ignorance of God’s Truths
God’s Kindness and Righteousness Romans 2:4-11 (Read); Romans 10:1-3 The Nature of Conversion Romans 6:1-4 The Jurisdiction of the Law Romans 7:1-4 The Nature of Christian Hope 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (Read)

14 Conclusion Ignorance of God’s truth is no excuse. God will
hold the ignorant accountable! Jude 10-11

15 Jude 10-11 But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves. 11 Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.
