2 Fig 1 Under local anesthesia, a vertical mini-incision was made in the base of the neck to access the proximal common carotid and the internal jugular vein. A shunt was created between the carotid and jugular vein by placing an 8F introducer sheath in each vessel and connecting the introducers with a short tube.
