Manel Matas, MD, Beatriz Alvarez, MD, Marc Ribo, MD, Carlos Molina, MD, Jordi Maeso, MD, Jose Alvarez-Sabin, MD  Journal of Vascular Surgery  Volume 46, Issue 1, Pages (July 2007) DOI: /j.jvs Copyright © 2007 The Society for Vascular Surgery Terms and Conditions

2 Fig 1 Under local anesthesia, a vertical mini-incision was made in the base of the neck to access the proximal common carotid and the internal jugular vein. A shunt was created between the carotid and jugular vein by placing an 8F introducer sheath in each vessel and connecting the introducers with a short tube. 3 Fig 2 A shunt was created between the carotid artery (1) and jugular vein (2) by placing an 8F introducer sheath (3) in each vessel and connecting the introducers with a tube. The common carotid artery was occluded (4), and retrograde flow was established.
