1 Joint programming actions
Horizon 2020 Energy Virtual Info Day #H2020Energy Supporting the development of a European Research Area in the field of energy. Luis Valentín del Bosque Policy Officer, Strategy Unit, DG Research and Innovation

2 WP 2016/17 – ERA-NET topics in 2017 LCE-35-2017
Joint Actions to foster innovative energy solutions in renewable energy technologies € 26m LCE ERA-NET Co-Fund Enhanced cooperation in Smart Local and Regional Energy Networks of the European Energy System € 7.5m LCE-37 will be covered during the InfoDay on Smart Grids and Storage on October 3rd.

3 Supporting the development of ERA, the Energy Union and the SET Plan
European Research Area Energy Union SET Plan All parts of the WP contribute one way or another… but joint programming actions also contribute to bringing cohesion and alignment between the different actors, and to the development of ERA. Important: make sure that proposals make reference to the policy context and how they can make a contribution to achieving the objectives of these policy initiatives.

4 Changes from LCE-34 Continuous submission. Budget split: €18m + €8.
Any unused budget from the first period rolls over to the second. Rather than repeat what the topic text says, I will focus on the differences between this year's topic and last year's. It takes a while to put a network together, which is one of the reasons we are switching to a continuous submission model. First submission period opens TODAY.

5 "Focusing on demonstration projects and on bringing innovative low carbon energy solutions closer to commercial deployment. " What this means: Wider TRL scope. What this DOES NOT mean: that demonstration activities are excluded.

6 Scope 'Proposals should aim at coordinating the research and demonstration efforts of the participating Member States, Associated Countries and Regions in the areas and challenges targeted in the 'Renewable Energy Technologies' sections of the Competitive Low-Carbon Energy (LCE) call.' Decarbonisation of the use of fossil fuels: excluded this year.

7 ERA-NET participants All participants should be either:
programme owners, such as national ministries or regional authorities managing a research programme programme managers (e.g. research councils, agencies) which implement research programmes under programme owners’ supervision Participants from at least 3 different MS or AC Don't switch off from the presentation – still concerns you – main purpose in H2020: to bring resources from national and EU programmes together to create bigger pots of funding to allow bigger joint calls.

8 Joint Actions Working Group (JAWG)
'Topics suitable for ERA-NETs will be identified and discussed in close collaboration with Member States'/Associated Countries' representatives through the SET Plan governance bodies, and with representatives of the Energy configuration of the H2020 Programme Committee.' Joint Actions Working Group (JAWG) If you are a research organisation who would like to benefit from the additional opportunities for transnational collaboration afforded by ERA-NET actions, you should let your national representative(s) in the Joint Actions Working Group and/or H2020 energy Programme Committee know about it. Or if you are responsible for research programmes and funding at regional level, and would like to take advantage of these opportunities for transnational collaboration, do the same. That way, when the networks are being put together, national representatives can make a better informed decision about whether it is in the interest of their research communities to take part in them, and they can also design national programmes accordingly.

9 Another way in which you can make your interest known is by using the partnering tool. (You can see the entries on the screen for LCE-35 and LCE-37).

10 Thank you for your attention
So far, there has been talk of networks possibly being put together for the 2017 call in the areas of solar heat for industrial processes, biofuels and certain aspects of onshore wind. But of course any new networks are to be encouraged. There are a few minutes for questions now. If afterwards there are still questions, or if you need further information (for example, if you do not know who your national representatives are in the JAWG or Programme Committee), do not hesitate to contact me. You can send me an , and you can reach me also through LinkedIn.
