3. A Characteristic Of God
The mercy of God is great (Psa. 145:8) and plenteous (Psa. 103:8)
His dealings with us are based on His mercy (Psa. 119:124)
Mercy is associated with God’s forgiveness (1 Tim. 1:13-16)
The consummate expression of God’s mercy is through Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:3)
He is a merciful high priest (Heb. 2:17)
We are to have confidence (Heb. 4:15-16)

4. A Requirement Of Man A beatitude (Matt. 5:7; Lk. 6:36)
Mercy is our forgiveness of others (Eph. 4:31-32; Col. 3:12-13)
Not to be overlooked (Matt. 23:23)

5. “He That Shewed Mercy On Him”
A situational question (Lk. 10:25-29)
“Willing to justify himself”
“I can’t tell, so I am ‘off the hook’”
The answer (Lk. 10:30-37)
A piteous situation that ought to produce compassion (30)
A priest and a Levite avoided this wounded man (31-32)
A despised Samaritan “took care of him” (33-35)
Now, who is a neighbor (36)?
“He that shewed mercy on him”

7. Consider this:
What extenuating circumstances would justify the actions of the priest & the Levite?
They were unmerciful and inexcusable
Opportunities to show mercy are almost never planned; they more often than not just happen
“But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice; for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Matt. 9:13)
