The board is great for demonstrations and is a colorful tool The board can accommodate different learning styles All ages of students respond favorably to board use Students with limited motor skills can enjoy board use The number one reason: It is interactive!!! Adapted from Why Use an Interactive Whiteboard? A Baker’s Dozen Reasons! by Dr. Mary Ann Bell

4 Choose a background OR Click on “Format” in main toolbar
Choose “Background…” Choose color(s) and effects Clone page to prevent doing this each time Search for “background” in the Gallery Browse through the Pictures and Backgrounds & Notebook Files and Pages Insert or drag over then clone

5 Create a title page Insert a text box from “Draw” on main toolbar or choose it from the shortcut bar Choose a font, color, and size Type the title of your lesson, SOL objectives, etc. Insert pictures, symbols, or more text to spark interest in the topic Select all objects and lock them into place to prevent movement during the presentation of your lesson

6 Insert shapes, numbers, symbols, lines, etc.
Insert a shape from the “Draw” menu or the shortcut bar. Change the outline and fill color by selecting the shape, then clicking on “Properties”. Transparency can also be changed here. Insert separate text boxes to type in numbers and symbols. They can then be manipulated unless you lock them into place. Insert a line from the “Draw” menu or the shortcut bar. The properties of the lines can be changed prior to locking them into place.

7 Grouping objects Create two separate objects, such as a number and a picture. To keep the number on top of the picture, click on the number and press the right mouse button. Choose “Order” and click “Bring to front”. Hold down the Shift key and click on both objects. Press the right mouse button again and choose “Grouping”. Click “Group”.

8 Cloning If you would like to use an object multiple times, click on it and press the right mouse button. Choose “Infinite Cloner”. Now you will never run out of objects! If you create a page that you will need to use again you can clone this page. Right-click on the page in the side bar and choose “Clone Page”. If you create a page that you will need to use in another lesson (such as notes or review), then add it to the Gallery so you can easily find it. Right-click on the page in the side bar and choose “Add Page to Gallery”.

9 Search the Gallery and insert items
Click on a blank page in your lesson. Search the Gallery for anything, such as “balloon pop” or “domino generator”. You will also find your saved pages here. Insert into the lesson or drag over onto the page.

10 Other handy tools The side bar can be moved to the left or right.
The screen shade can be used to hide material you do not want to reveal all at once. Enter full screen to hide all of the toolbars. You can show two pages at once for comparison purposes. Screen capture allows you to copy an image or page from the Internet without downloading to your computer. Objects can be turned (green circle) and flipped (right-click for flip options).

11 Other handy tools Other files can be attached to your lesson, cutting down on time spent searching for them on your hard drive. You can link objects to websites or other pages in the lesson. Tables, sounds, and video files can be inserted into the lesson. You can scan worksheets into the lesson and lock them into place to write on them.
