4 Quick Write Judging Others (Passing Judgment)
Do you think it is fair to pass judgment on total strangers? What might be the danger in passing judgment on a stranger? Why do you think people do pass judgment so frequently?

5 Build Background and Preview the Selection
Read the “Build Background” and “Preview the Selection” sections on page 16. Make a list of at least three important facts you learn about the text. Circle the detail you think is the most important.

6 During Reading Skills Summarizing
Summarizing is a brief restatement of important plot events. Remember that in order to write a clear summary, you must keep events in chronological or sequential order. As you read “The Treasure of Lemon Brown,” record the main events in chronological order.
