Friday 14th September 2018 Junior Athletes’ Briefing Hello and the warmest of welcome to you all to the 2018ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Under 23 Athletes Briefing.

12 Check-In Procedures Accreditation
You will NOT be able to access the athlete lounge without your accreditation card. Note that you will only have access to the lounge during the period prior to your own race (not during other races). Bike Check - before entering Athletes Lounge Refer to 5.2 & 5.3 in Competition Rules Handle bars with clip-ons Wheels (non authorized UCI wheels rule) Spare wheels will be checked and labelled at bike check. Coaches must transport their own wheels to the team wheel station and collect them after the race. Disc brakes are now legal and spare wheels with disc brakes may be placed at the team wheel station however they are not allowed in the neutral wheel station Bike frame Helmet Bike mechanic service is available at the athletes lounge from 5:30am to 11am.

13 Check-In Procedures Bike Check - before entering Athletes Lounge
Approval for the addition/modification of any equipment to the bike, MUST be obtained from the Head Referee up until 10 minutes from the end of this Athlete’s Briefing Mechanic service available Bike mechanic service is available at the athletes lounge from 5:30am to 11am.

14 Check-In Procedures Athletes’ Lounge
Uniform and race gear check (name, country, logos, ITU logo, zippers) – photos taken of each uniform Wearing other uniform during the race = DSQ! Body marking check (both arms, both legs) Timing chip & data tracking chip distribution Swim cap distribution You will not return to the athlete lounge after the race. Please label your bags (race number sticker) and we will move them to the recovery area. .

15 Check-In Procedures Transition Area
Helmet – Do not leave helmet straps fastened in transition Running shoes go outside and in front of your box Your box may be on either side of your bike rack Helmet on bike The bike must be racked in the first transition by the rear wheel and in the second transition by either wheel At the transition: remember to leave your helmet strap unfastened in the transition, athlete who does not comply will receive a 15 seconds time penalty in TA1. Please note about the new rule on helmet branding, there in on limitation of manufacturers or sponsors logos on the helmet, but these logos must be incorporated to the helmet and are not stickers. The only stickers allowed are the race numbers. Running shoes on the ground and close to your box; helmet on the bike; label your spare wheels, and check in your spare wheels at the bike check. They will be collected there and returned to the athletes’ lounge. Rack your bike with the front wheel point towards the transition in TA1, and you may rack your bike with either wheel in TA2.

The course: swim will be two laps of seven hundred and fifty meters, a total distance of one point five k; bike will be 9 laps of four point four five k, a total distance of forty point zero five k; and run will 4 laps of two point five four k, a total distance of ten point one six k.

17 Pre-Start Procedure Athletes’ Introduction
10 minutes before your start, line up at the transition Wear the official swim cap outside, 2nd swim cap unbranded When you are introduced, jog to the swim start platform Quickly select your start position After selecting your position, stay behind the pre start line Blocking more than one position = DSQ

18 Start Procedure Athletes in position:
The start can be given any time the Head Referee announces “On Your Mark” Electronic Horn Blast The race starts Athletes not moving forward at the start will receive a time penalty of 10 seconds in TA1 Delayed start athletes will move forward on the call of the designated official How to rank juniors.

19 False Start Procedure False start with many athletes:
Several horn blasts Kayaks in front of you Everyone goes back to his or her original start spot Valid start but with early starters: If someone starts before the horn and every one else starts with the horn, the false starter will receive a time penalty of 10 seconds in TA1 During the time penalty the athlete cannot touch any race equipment

21 Swim Behaviour Monitoring
Definition from the ITU CR 4.1: e.) Athletes may sportingly maintain their own space in the water: (i) Where athletes make accidental contact in the swim and then immediately afterwards move apart no penalty will be incurred; (ii) Where athletes make contact in the swim, and an athlete continues to impede the progress of the other athlete without moving apart, this action will result in a time penalty; (iii) Where athletes deliberately target another athlete to impede their progress, gain unfair advantage and potentially cause harm will result in disqualification and may be reported to ITU Arbitration Tribunal for potential suspension or expulsion.

22 Swim Behaviour Monitoring
Definition from the ITU CR 4.1: There will be additional boats and Technical officials deployed on the swim course to monitor athletes’ behaviour in this respect. Infringements will be recorded and appropriate action will be taken dependent on the rules definition from the previous slide. Please respect your fellow competitors and keep the race fair.

34 Run Penalty Box Penalty box is for infringements in: Swim, TA1, Bike, TA2 and Run e.g.: swim conduct, mount before mount line, dismount after dismount line, equipment outside your box, rack the bike outside your own space, littering outside the littering zone, etc. Location: Before making the final U turn to transition and finish Information: White board to show race numbers (and letter) (Athletes need to read the board) Procedure: 10 second time penalty served on any lap of the run If you do not stop, it may result in a DQ

35 Run Penalty Box If you incur a penalty, you will find your number plus a letter code indicating the nature of the infraction: D = Dismount Line Violation S = Swim Conduct M = Mount Line violation E = Equipment Outside Box L = Littering V = Other Violations For example: 12D….athlete #12 received a time penalty for a dismount line violation 2x12ME…athlete #12 received 2 time penalties for mount line and equipment outside the box violations

36 Post Race Procedures Photo-finish
No congestion in the finish area: go to mixed zone/recovery area For Top 3 and Series Leaders TV/Flash Interviews Medal Ceremony Media “Mixed Zone” For awards, dress “up” – with race uniform (or country clothes) Ambush marketing rules apply Post-race procedure: Photo-finish, please proceed to the mixed zone or recovery area after you finish to avoid congestion in the finish area; top 3 and series leaders, officials will direct you to the media area for TV interviews, then it will be followed by the medal ceremony, after the ceremony, please proceed to the mixed zone for further media interviews. For the medal ceremony, please dress up – you may wear your uniform or country clothes, and again, the ambush marketing rules apply here. ITU will wire transfer the prize money to you.

37 Ambush Marketing Rule Ambush marketing is defined as:
“Deliberately using the opportunity of live television and media photographers to expose the sponsor logos larger then the approved sizes, and/or equipment or objects not provided by LOC or ITU.” The consequence for this behaviour is ( Leslie may comment ) Please follow the ambush marketing rule

38 Post Race Procedures Anti-Doping Control
Photo ID is needed for every athlete to go for testing. Team Medical Access Only team medical will be allowed to enter the medical tent after ITU Medical Delegate’s permission. Every NF can have 1 team medical accreditation. Team doctors should register with the ITU Medical Delegate. Immediately after this briefing, we will have a team medical doctors meeting with the medical delegate and LOC doctor.

39 Coaches Areas Coaches wristbands and Accreditation Cards will only be distributed to those coaches who’s National Federations registered them through the on-line system They will have access to: Athletes’ Lounge/Post Recovery Area Swim Start Area Wheel Station (Team Wheels) Area Note – you will need your accreditation card to access the athlete lounge. You will only be able to access the lounge prior to your athlete’s race(s). Coaches Areas: coaches accreditation will be distributed to those whose NF have registered them through the online system; coaches will have access to:

41 Athletes Agreement There has been a change in the procedure of filling the Athlete’s Agreement. All Athletes will have to fill in their data on their Admin page of the ITU Website before competing in their first event, or if there is any change. If you need logins please contact Following the briefing you will sign the Agreement before taking your race package, that does not include the section with detailed information. The reason for this change is to integrate the information of the athletes to the same database – which is not public – and to avoid any missing or inaccurate information.
