4 Microsoft Support Policy Support can be extended when there is a successor product A.10 years (5+5) from the original product release date OR B.7 years (2+5) from the successor product release date, WHICHEVER IS THE LATEST What does this mean for Windows XPe? Microsoft is committed to have a successor to XPe Tentatively targeted for the end of 2008 Service Packs and Feature Packs are not successor products XPe was released on 1/30/2002 and follows rule B: XPe is in mainstream support until its successor comes and for 2 years after that Even if XPes successor came today, you would get 7 years of support Beyond 10 years: Windows XP Embedded Page 4

6 What does this mean for WEPOS Microsoft is committed to have a successor to WEPOS Service Packs and Feature Packs are not successor products WEPOS was released on 5/24/2005 and currently follows rule A: WEPOS is in mainstream support until 7/13/2010 and will be in extended support until 7/14/2015 If WEPOS successor comes after 5/24/2008, WEPOS will follow rule B: WEPOS would be in mainstream support until its successor comes and for 2 years after that Beyond 10 years: WEPOS Page 6

8 Service Pack Support Policy Service Packs are released to combine product updates and fixes After a new Service Pack is released The previous SP will be supported for at least 12 months The previous SP may be supported for up to 24 months (often the case for OS Service Packs such as Windows XPe) Microsoft will announce the previous SP support dates The products support lifecycle supersedes the service pack support policy What does this mean for Windows XPe?
