How high can you count en español? Take a moment to write 0-15 down the margin of your paper and write the Spanish names of as many as you can. Remember to spell the words the way they SOUND using Spanish letter sounds.

3 The numbers 0-15 are their own unique words…
Zero Cero One Uno Two Dos Three Tres Four Cuatro Five Cinco Six Seis Seven Siete Eight Ocho Nine Nueve Ten Diez Eleven Once Twelve Doce Thirteen Trece Fourteen Catorce Fifteen Quince The numbers 0-15 are their own unique words… How did you do?

4 Notice the spelling changes!
16-19 16 Dieciséis 17 Diecisiete 18 Dieciocho 19 Diecinueve These numbers are formed kind of like writing a math problem. Squish your tens and ones together, adding the spanish word for “and” in the middle 10 and 6 Diez y Seis becomes Dieciséis We are writing the number as “ten and six” in one long word diez y becomes dieci The Z changes to a C and y (meaning and) changes to an i Notice the spelling changes!

5 Counting from 21-29 is similar to the structure of the numbers 16-19

Use ciento when counting from

10 How high can you go??? You now have the skills to count all the way up to 199! To go from 35 to 135, just add the word CIENTO in front… 35 – treinta y cinco 135 – ciento treinta y cinco
