2 Health Insurance

3 Premiums – What are they?
Premiums are the monthly payment you pay to have health insurance. There are 3 ways to get health insurance Through your Employer Your employer will pay a portion of the premium and you will pay a portion of the premium. Through Medicaid The government pays the premium – this is for low income families Through the Health Insurance Market Place Government will pay a portion of the premium and you will pay a portion of the premium.

4 Copay and Coinsurance Some health insurance have copays and all have a coinsurance. Copay – This is the amount you pay whenever you go to the doctors. It always has to be paid. Lots of times it is just $20 - $25. Coinsurance – This is the percentage you pay after the insurance pays. Normally it is a 80/20 where the insurance pays 80% and you pay 20% or a 70/30 where the insurance pays 70% and you pay 30%

5 Deductible and Out of pocket Maximum
Deductible – This is the amount you pay before the insurance will start paying for things. Out of pocket Maximum – This is the amount the insurance company will let you go up to before they start paying 100% of everything.

6 Different Insurance plans
HMO – Health Maintenance Organization. HMOs have their own network of doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers who have agreed to accept payment at a certain level for any services they provide. They only pay if you stay in network. PPO - Preferred Provider Organization –A type of health plan that contracts with medical providers, such as hospitals and doctors, to create a network of participating providers. You pay less if you use providers that belong to the plan's network. If you go out of network it costs a little more but they still pay.
