2. Background
Request from NDA in late summer – West Cumbrian view of strategy
Relevant sections of an early draft reviewed and commented on by WCSSG working groups – excellent support from secretariat and external facilitator
Enablers working group pulled together two documents – collated working group feedback and overall summary
Drafts reviewed by working group to enable production of final draft for consideration today
Learning from experience – repeat the early engagement
Provide the full scope of documents (Business Plan and Integrated Impact Assessment)
WCSSG process needs a little more time at the end

3. Seven key themes
Need for overall vision and governance of nuclear issues and how NDA fits in
Not clear how the strategy builds upon the experience of previous versions
Some important gaps/disconnects on waste management
Spent Fuel Management – is planned cessation of reprocessing still appropriate?
Lack of data prevents risk, plans and progress being overtly displayed in a convincing manner
Lack of a cohesive plan for infrastructure development
Socio-economic and people impacts

4. Next Steps Compile formal response document using today’s feedback
Submit to NDA by 15th February 2016
In parallel submit under covering letter to Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Shareholder executive
