2. PROJECT IDEA
Project Idea: To speak up and “tell the world” about oncology nursing and my personal role in nursing with regards to prevention, self checks and early detection/ screenings. I also plan to speak about nursing in general and the plethora of job opportunities available in the nursing community.
Where your project will take place : Gamma Phi Beta at James Madison University. This particular sorority's philantrophy is 'Building Strong Girls'. I believe it is important to teach young women at this impressionable age the importance of early detection and screenings in cancer prevention. Beginning self checks and regular checkups at this early age sets these women up for health and success in the future.

3. EARLY PREVENTION
I chose this topic because as an oncology RN I see a lot of patients that are diagnosed in the later stages of cancer most often due to lack of preventative care and early prevention.
After the original outline, I planned to also present to a student male population but due to scheduling conflicts and getting sick, I was unable to do so.

4. PRESENTATION I presented to the girls of Gamma Phi Beta.
We covered early prevention and detection of breast, cervical, and uterine cancers, as well as HPV
We covered the importance of protecting women’s health from an early age
I presented how the field of oncology has affected my life and how nursing allows me to give back

5. EARLY PREVENTION/NUSING AS AN ADVOCATE

6. RESPONSE
The presentation was well received and the girls were very responsive and interactive
I fielded questions about nursing in general and how philanthropy can turn into a career such as nursing
I discovered that I really like speaking and teaching and being an advocate for not only oncology but the nursing profession as a whole
