3 New Junior Cycle In the Junior Certificate class of 2019, 3 subjects are now part of the Junior Cycle - English - Business Studies - Science English is offered at either Higher or Ordinary Level Business Studies & Science are studied at Common Level only

4 State Certified Final Examinations
The grade that appears in the State Certified Final Examinations is based on; - An Assessment Task – 10% - Junior Cycle Exam (sat in June 2019) – 90% Both are corrected & graded by the State Examinations Commission. The grades awarded, for these subjects, has changed.

6 This work takes place in a 40 minute lesson.
ASSESSMENT TASK These follow the Classroom Based Assessment 2 & is a reflection of the work carried out in that assessment. The tasks & the dates in which they are to be completed are set by the State Examination Commissions. This work takes place in a 40 minute lesson. English Monday 3rd - Friday 7th December 2018 Business Studies Monday 10th - Friday 14th December 2018 Science Monday 28th January - Friday 1st February 2019

7 Classroom Based Assessments
Students do 2 classroom based assessment in each subject, one in 2nd year & one in 3rd year. The State Examination Commission sets the topic & are common regardless of the level a student takes.

8 Here provisional grades are discussed & a consensus is reached.
The CBA’s are corrected by the students teacher & awarded a provisional grade. All teachers involved in the CBA, in each subject department, hold a Subject Learning & Assessment Review. Here provisional grades are discussed & a consensus is reached. Students are then awarded their final grade now know as a ‘descriptor’.

Period during which students spend three weeks completing Science in Society Investigation Friday 7th December 2018 to Friday 25th January 2019 Window for completion of the Assessment Task Monday 28th January - Friday 1st February 2019 Latest date for award of provisional descriptors by the teacher Thursday 7th February 2019 Latest date for completion of Subject Learning and Assessment Review and for award of final descriptors by the teacher Monday 11th February 2019

14 Other Areas of Learning
Used to acknowledge students achievements outside the classroom Students will be asked to record their activities they have taken part in over the 3 years of the Junior Cycle There is a 150 word limit for this section

15 Level 2 Learning Programme
Designed for students with particular educational needs Students complete ‘Priority Learning Units’ that develop their literacy & numeracy, social & pre-vocational skills There are 5 Priority Learning Units Communication & Literacy Numeracy Personal Care Living in a Community Preparing for Work
