Capote was born and raised in New Orleans. He spent summers with his aunt in Alabama in the same town as Harper Lee and was the model for Lee’s “Dill” in To Kill a Mockingbird.

He published his first book Other Voices, Other Rooms in 1948.

4 In 1966, Capote published his “nonfiction novel” In Cold Blood after researching a violent murder in Kansas. This book was the beginning of a new type of American literature.

According to the coroner’s report the cause of death was “liver disease complicated by phlebitis and multiple drug intoxication.”
