1 Prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamases in isolates of the Enterobacter cloacae complex from German hospitals  H. Hoffmann, E. Stürenburg, J. Heesemann, A. 2 Fig. 1 (A) Validation of the CTXM PCR. Ten strains of five different species with six different CTXMESBLs were tested with the newly designed CTXM-PCR. (B) Examples of CTXM, SHV and TEM PCR assays. Strains are representative of different genotypes of the Enterobacter cloacae complex. Upper gel, CTXM-PCR; middle gel, SHV-PCR; lower gel, TEM-PCR. 3 Fig. 2 PM/PML Etests and double-disk diffusion tests (DDAT) for the five extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)- producing isolates. ESBLs produced by the respective isolates are indicated under the strain designations. The PM/PML Etest was positive for isolates EN-293, EN-331, EN-335 and EN-339, but not for EN-337. The double-disk diffusion test was positive for all five ESBL-producing isolates.
