2 Abstract This presentation explains:
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 Month Year Abstract This presentation explains: The need of in-home entertainment scenario with OBSS. Brief comparison of simulation complexity to show the feasibility of the in-home entertainment scenario with OBSS. Abbreviations: “in-home w/o OBSS”: in-home entertainment scenario without OBSS “in-home with OBSS”: in-home entertainment scenario with OBSS “enterprise w/o OBSS”: enterprise scenario without OBSS “enterprise with OBSS”: enterprise scenario with OBSS Yusuke ASAI, NTT John Doe, Some Company

3 March 2010 Background-1 Behavior of 11a/n/ac devices in OBSSs is one of the most crucial issues in TGac [1]-[5]. Therefore, each proposal in TGac is recommended to evaluate performances in OBSSs. In addition, technical proposals which mitigate / suppress influence of OBSSs should be evaluated using common simulation model. To reflect this requirement, enterprise with OBSS has been added in FREM document. Yusuke ASAI, NTT

4 March 2010 Background-2 In Sep09 meeting, TGac agreed to add home scenario with OBSS into FREM document. Straw poll: Do you support adding the OBSS home scenario to the FR & EM document according to document 09/1076r1 Result: yes: 31 / no: 1 / abstain: 3 In Jan10 meeting, the motion for updating FREM document has not been accepted. Simulation complexity is an open issue for in-home with OBSS. This document revisits the need of in-home with OBSS scenario and presents brief evaluation of simulation complexity. Yusuke ASAI, NTT

5 The need to consider in-home with OBSS
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 March 2010 The need to consider in-home with OBSS TGac will expand channel bandwidth to 80MHz or more [6]. Large number of OBSSs is expected especially in apartment scenario. Traffic with QoS should be carefully evaluated in OBSSs. The demand for wireless video transmission in home network may be spoiled. AP AP Signals from OBSSs AP AP AP AP AP AP AP QoS application: IPTV Four 80MHz channels are Shared by eight APs. Yusuke ASAI, NTT John Doe, Some Company

6 Evaluation of simulation complexity
March 2010 Evaluation of simulation complexity We compare following three indices for brief estimation of simulation complexity: Setup process for OBSSs The number of traffic flows Total traffic rate Comparison condition: A traffic between two STAs is regarded as two traffic flows: (It is assumed that DLS is not used.) AP AP STA a STA b STA a STA b Yusuke ASAI, NTT

7 Setup process for OBSSs
March 2010 Setup process for OBSSs As well as enterprise with OBSS, traffic model of OBSSs are the subsets of center BSS, which reduce complexity to setup for OBSS simulation. 20 BSS A AP STA (other color) room wall outside wall -20 x -60 -40 -20 20 40 60 Yusuke ASAI, NTT

8 Additional setup for OBSS simulation
March 2010 Additional setup for OBSS simulation As well as enterprise with OBSS, traffic model of OBSSs are the subsets of center BSS, which reduce complexity to setup for OBSS simulation. 20 BSS A BSS B copying AP STA (other color) room wall outside wall -20 x -60 -40 -20 20 40 60 Yusuke ASAI, NTT

9 Additional setup for OBSS simulation
March 2010 Additional setup for OBSS simulation As well as enterprise with OBSS, traffic model of OBSSs are the subsets of center BSS, which reduce complexity to setup for OBSS simulation. -> Simple implementation. 20 BSS C BSS A BSS B copying AP STA (other color) room wall outside wall -20 x -60 -40 -20 20 40 60 Yusuke ASAI, NTT

10 The number of traffic flows in each simulation scenario
March 2010 The number of traffic flows in each simulation scenario Example of in-home without OBSS (17 flows) 20 BSS A AP STA (other color) room wall outside wall -20 x -60 -40 -20 20 40 60 Yusuke ASAI, NTT

11 The number of traffic flows in each simulation scenario
March 2010 The number of traffic flows in each simulation scenario The number of traffic flows in in-home without OBSS is less than that of enterprise scenarios. (about 77%) Yusuke ASAI, NTT

12 Total traffic rate in each simulation scenario
March 2010 Total traffic rate in each simulation scenario Total traffic rate of in-home without OBSS is much less than that of enterprise scenario. Note: It is expected that these volume of traffic rate will never achieved in each proposal. (Those are much larger than the requirement of TGac. Most of non-QoS traffic comprises the flows of local file transfer, which aim to saturate traffic. ) Yusuke ASAI, NTT

13 Total traffic rate in each simulation scenario
March 2010 Total traffic rate in each simulation scenario Enterprise without OBSS is regarded as a benchmark for comparison with in-home without OBSS. In-home with OBSS has less traffic flows. Total traffic rate of in-home with OBSS is half as large as that in enterprise without OBSS. These characteristics show the reasonable complexity of in-home with OBSS. Yusuke ASAI, NTT

14 Comparison of two OBSS scenarios
March 2010 Comparison of two OBSS scenarios Two OBSS scenarios are compared in terms of the characteristics of traffic with QoS. Percentage of traffic flow with QoS: in-home with OBSS: 70% enterprise with OBSS: 39% Yusuke ASAI, NTT

15 Comparison of two OBSS scenarios
March 2010 Comparison of two OBSS scenarios Two OBSS scenarios are compared in terms of the characteristics of traffic with QoS. Total traffic rate with QoS: in-home with OBSS: 386Mbps enterprise with OBSS: 7.2Mbps Yusuke ASAI, NTT

16 Need of two individual OBSS scenarios
March 2010 Need of two individual OBSS scenarios The usage models between in-home with OBSS and enterprise with OBSS quite different in terms of: The number of QoS traffic flows The volume of QoS traffic rate. Therefore, two scenarios (enterprise and in-home) with OBSS should exist separately. Yusuke ASAI, NTT

17 March 2010 Conclusion In-home entertainment scenario with OBSS (described in doc.:09/1076r0 ) is necessary to design 11ac to achieve robust wireless video services. Simulation complexity is briefly estimated in terms of: simulation setup simulation number of flows total traffic rate The proposed in-home with OBSS scenario has reasonable complexity. Yusuke ASAI, NTT
