1 Joint DFIG – Broker Meeting The DFIG view Peter Wittenburg

2 Brokering in short It’s about mediation between different parties
So it can be about improper fitting It‘s about offering mediating services by 3rd parties

3 Data Fabric Cycle Observations Experiments Simulations etc. Identify components that could improve efficiency (stepwise). Specify them and motivate people to build and test them. There will be common and specific components.

4 Compositions Put components together to (complex) compositions for various purposes Test compositions and fix connection problems Will we have connection problems that require a flexible approach? How big is the mapping problem?

5 Common Components Common components are essential to reduce complexity! There will be so many components with heterogeneity CoCos can be served by 3rd parties – it’s a trust issue Take the PID business where we create dependencies Handle System DONA Specs, worldwide route, policies MPA Root registration authorities, policies DataCite, EPIC, etc community Registration authorities, policies National/community centers Local community Policies

6 Common Components Missing component: authorisation solution within federations (accessible copies at various repositories) Possible solution: Specialised services Dynamic aggregation of authorisation records to such a special 3rd party service Special rights of “owners” remain Readability by all trusted repositories Rely already on specialised authentication services Could do same for authorisation records – sensitive!!! Different local solutions require mapping

7 From abstract fabrics to solutions
Common Components & Services Specific Components & Services Closing urgent gaps t-repositories PID system MD schemas MD editors Vocabularies Collection builder etc. Global Digital Object Cloud

8 Conclusions Component compositions probably require flexible solutions
Common components will be required where possible to reduce complexity – built in convergence trends Where to build in flexibility – separate layer? Many examples for 3rd party services Trust is the major issue Abstract discussions don‘t bring us ahead How to move on in concrete building/testing projects?
