Section 2 –Linear and Angular Velocity
Chapter 6 Section 2 –Linear and Angular Velocity

Angular Displacement Angular Displacement is another term for how large an angle is. For instance, the angular displacement in radians of an angle that goes 4.5 revolutions is 9π because 4.5∙2π is 9π.

Angular Velocity Angular Velocity – If an object moves along a circle during a time of t units, then the angular velocity, w, is given by w = Ѳ/t where Ѳ is the angular displacement in radians.

Angular Velocity EX 1: Determine the angular velocity if 7.3 revolutions are completed in 5 seconds.

Linear Velocity If an object moves along a circle of radius of r units, then its linear velocity, v is given by v = r(Ѳ/t), where Ѳ/t represents the angular displacement in radians.

Linear Velocity EX 2: Determine the linear velocity of a point rotating at an angular velocity of 17π radians per second at a distance of 5 cm from the center of the rotating object.
