1 The Epistle to the Hebrews
Lesson 21 Receiving the Unshakeable Kingdom Hebrews 12:14-29

2 Do Not Forfeit Your Birthright Hebrews 12:14-17
Pursue peace and holiness (12:14) Peace must be actively sought (1 Peter 3:11; Romans 12:18) Holiness is necessary to see God (1 Peter 1:16-17; Leviticus 10:3) Three things to watch out for (12:15-17) Falling short of the grace of God A root of bitterness springing up & defiling many A fornicator or profane person like Esau forfeiting his birthright Esau could not regain the blessing he lost; his father could not change his mind (Genesis 27:30-40)

3 Mt. Zion is Greater than Mt. Sinai Hebrews 12:18-24
The mountain the Israelites came to is much different from the one we experience in Christ. (12:17-21; Exodus 19:12-20) Mount Sinai… Could be touched Burned with fire Was surrounded with blackness & darkness and tempest and with overwhelming sounds. Was terrifying.

4 Mt. Zion is Greater than Mt. Sinai Hebrews 12:18-24
We have come to Mount Zion… (12:22-24) The city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem (Revelation 21:10-11; 23) An innumerable company of angels (Rev. 5:11) The general assembly and church of the firstborn Whose names are registered in heaven (Lk.10:20) God the Judge of all (Psalm 98:9) The spirits of just men made perfect Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant (Heb. 8:6) The blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel (Hebrews 9:13-14; 11:4)

5 We Must heed the One Who Speaks from Heaven Hebrews 12:25-29
If those who refused to listen when God spoke from Sinai did not escape, neither shall we! (Hebrews 12:24; 2:3; 10:26-30) He has promised to shake earth and heaven, and only heavenly things will endure (Hebrews 12:26-27; Haggai 2:6-7) We are receiving an unshakeable kingdom (Hebrews 12:28-29) We have been translated into it (Col. 1:13) It is eternal (Daniel 2:44; 7:14) We must serve with reverence and fear Our God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:23-24)
