2. WasteNot Program Goals
A pilot program to improve Energy Efficiency at five New Mexico Wastewater Treatment Plants. 1Q 2016 to late-2018.
Expand the use of Energy Performance Contracting to Wastewater Plants
This WasteNot program has seven main elements
Track energy usage with the DOE Portfolio Manager.
Perform an energy audit of the wastewater treatment plants.
Identify funding sources for system upgrades.
Perform upgrades.
Upgraded results to be tracked and compared to baseline.
Document this process with a How-To Guide for New Mexico Communities.
Promote the results of this program.

2015 DOE Award, Community Partner Selection, and MOU agreements
Q Kickoff meeting
Q Collect basic information on each wastewater plant. Summarize information and challenges for each community. Start Portfolio Manager training and data entry.
Q Complete training with Portfolio Manager. Have the baseline data available as more data is added to system. Energy Audits underway at the plants. Summary of audit findings assembled.
Q Audits certified and presented to partners. Partners to develop energy conservation plans and potential energy efficiency upgrades.
Q – 2018, Implementation of conservation and upgrade plans. Partners track results.
2018 – Create and Deliver How-To Guide.

City of Española – identified system changes to reduce energy consumption
Mora Mutual Water and Sewer Association – design/build system not functioning well, system revisions in work postponed the energy audit
Village of Ruidoso – system maintenance costs, electric meter setup and rates
Town of Taos – power quality issues
City of Tucumcari – Manager Calvin Henson – system very well run
