The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

5. ... If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.

6. Engage
Luke, the writer of the third of the four gospels, is thought to have been a doctor – he writes in a very thorough and careful way. Luke would have been a rich man. He also wrote the book of Acts, which describes how Christianity spread after Jesus’ ascension to Heaven.
According to tradition, he died aged 84, hanged from an olive tree for his belief in Christianity.

Why did Jesus say it was hard for rich people to get to Heaven? Do you agree?
How did Jesus tell the disciples to behave when they visited people who didn’t agree with them? Why do lots of us find it hard to behave like this?
What would you be willing to do for what you believe in?
Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?”
Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair.
Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student.
Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections.
