4 Defining Success and Failure:
Choose one word from you drill that represents success and one word that represents failure and record each word on a separate Post-it note. Add your Post-it notes to the respective “Success” and “Failure” word clouds around the front of the room. Examine the word clouds; then discuss with a elbow partner the reoccurring, important, or interesting words in order to begin to define the two terms, success and failure. Objective: We will analyze multiple views of success in order to write a definition of success through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.

5 Views of Success an Failure:
View and take notes on Richard St. Johns' 3 minute Ted-Talks: "8 Secrets of Success," "and/or "Success is a Continuous Journey," and Elizabeth Gilbert's 7 minute "Success, Failure, and the Drive to Keep Creating." You may use the optional resource Purpose for Listening to help guide our viewing Work in small groups to determine your own 5 rules for success, using the word clouds and video’s as a starting point. Order your rules from most important (#1) to least important (#5). You may write a sentence for each rule, but should also pull ONE buzz word for each rule (i.e. passion). Objective: We will analyze multiple views of success in order to write a definition of success through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.

6 Discussion: Share out your group’s rules and order of most important to least important, discussing your personal ideas of success and how it differs from or is similar to that of Richard St. John and Elizabeth Gilbert.   Objective: We will analyze multiple views of success in order to write a definition of success through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.

7 Formative Assessment:

Be sure to select and organize your definition based on our analysis and discussion of content in today's lesson. Objective: We will analyze multiple views of success in order to write a definition of success through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.
