Presentation on theme: "What Kind of Fool are You?"— Presentation transcript:

1 What Kind of Fool are You?
Court Jester – Also called, a fool. Made a spectacle of himself (acting silly, dancing, jokes) to amuse the royal court. Our phrase “play the fool” is taken from Shakespeare’s play (12th night) refers to a jester named Feske, who in Shakespeare’s words was, “wise enough to play the fool” The world commonly views Christians as fools, and makes spectacle of them! (Hebrews 10:32-34), “But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: 33 partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; 34 for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven. Paul even drew upon the world’s reproachful view of Christians to sarcastically refer to the apostles as “fools for Christ’s sake” in contrast to the self-important arrogance he rebuked in the Corinthian church (1 Corinthians 4:9-10), “For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!” Hebrews 10:32-34

2 God views those who reject Him as truly foolish
(Psalm 14:1), “The fool has said in his heart, ‘there is no God.’” Those who refuse to acknowledge and glorify God become “futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened, professing themselves to be wise, they became fools” (Rom. 1:20-21). Psalm 14:1

3 Many reject the gospel of Christ because to them it is foolish
Many reject the gospel of Christ because they think it is foolish. (1 Corinthians 1:18), “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:23-24), “We preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God” The good news of a Savior and the salvation he gives is “the wisdom of God” to all who are saved. 1 Corinthians 1 (18, 23-24)

4 We must become foolish in our own eyes to be wise
Humility before God and man is essential for God’s people. (1 Corinthians 3:18-21), “Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He catches the wise in their own craftiness; and again, The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile. Therefore let no one boast in men.” 1 Corinthians 3 (18-21)

5 What Kind of Fool Do You Wish to be?
The fool who is only called a fool by men? Or the fool who is really a fool in the eyes of God! Which fool do you wish to be? The fool who is only called a fool in the eyes of men? Or the fool who is really a fool in the eyes of God? Don’t be a real fool, OBEY GOD TODAY!
