2 Sputnik 1 On October 4, 1957, Russia announced the landmark launch of a small satellite into orbit around the earth,named Sputnik. National College Iasi

3 The first beening in space
Less than a month later Russia sent a second satellite, Sputnik 2, into space carrying a dog named "Laika". National College Iasi

4 The first man in space On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first person ever in space. He orbited the Earth once, reaching a maximum altitude of 203 miles. National College Iasi

5 The first woman in space
Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space (16 – 19 June 1963 – Vostok 6) and the youngest, having only 26 years. National College Iasi

6 The first disaster with casualties
On 23 april 1967, Soyuz 1 was lunched and one day later it crashed at the landing, having Vladimir Komarov onboard. National College Iasi

7 The first exchange The russians realize on January 1969 the first crew transfer, between Soyuz 4 and Soyuz 5. National College Iasi

8 Project Apollo The Apollo program began in 1963 with the expressed goal of landing a man on the moon. National College Iasi

9 The first step on the Moon
One of the greatest moments in human history came on July 20, 1969, when Neil Alden Armstrong became the first human to walk on the moon. National College Iasi

10 The first space rocket On 12 Novembre, 1981,Columbia became the first space rocket, beeing reusable. National College Iasi

11 Chalenger On 1984, Bruce McCandless walked out out from his ship, Chalanger, and became the first man to fly in space, without being tied. National College Iasi
