Presentation on theme: "How does temperature affect viscosity and density?"— Presentation transcript:

1 How does temperature affect viscosity and density?
*adding heat to a gas causes it to rise *adding heat to a liquid increases its temperature

2 What’s happening to the particles as you add heat?
the particles move (vibrate) faster and move apart from each other. As a result, the attraction between them become WEAKER!

3 1. Temperature Increases:
-Volume Increases -Density Decreases -Viscosity Decreases 2. Temperature Decreases: -Volume Decreases -Density Increases -Viscosity Increases

4 Confined fluids are fluids that are in a closed system, they cannot enter or leave the system.
What are some examples? Your Blood HYDRAULICS: any confined, pressurized system that moves liquids ex. Your heart

5 PNEUMATICS: any confined, pressurized system that moves gases
ex. Your lungs

6 CHECK BACK QUESTIONS: Will ships float lower or higher in tropical waters? Explain your answer using the words buoyancy and density. Cars use a liquid brake fluid to transmit a force from the brake pedal to the brake pads. If air were used instead of a liquid, how different might pushing on the pedal feel? Explain. Compare and contrast hydraulics and pneumatics. Give three reasons as to why it is important to learn about fluids and fluid power systems.
