1 Studies of the Interfaces between Conjugated Oligomers and Self-Assembled Monolayers
James E. Whitten, Department of Chemistry and Center for Advanced Materials, The University of Massachusetts Lowell, Lowell, MA Summary of Research: Sexithiophene (6T) is a leading material for organic electronics. X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopies (XPS and UPS) are being used to study the chemical and electronic nature of the interface between 6T and organic layers (including self-assembled monolayers and buckminsterfullerene) on gold surfaces. This information may be used to derive energy level diagrams of the interfaces, which are important for predicting the efficiencies of organic electronic devices. He I UPS spectra of 6T (thicknesses indicated) deposited on top of a 300 Å C60 film on a gold surface.
