Step One: Read the Title
The Title will give you an overview of what is being presented in the map.
Step Two: Read the Key (Legend)
The key will explain symbols and color codes to understand the map.
Step Three: Use the tools available.
Use the Compass Rose to determine direction and a Scale to determine distance.

7. Breaking Down Graphs Step One: Read the title
The title will give you an overview of what the Graph is about.
Step Two: Determine what information the Graph is presenting
Look at the various axis or other reference points of the graph to understand how it is read.
Step Three: Read the Key
Use a key (if available) to understand particular aspects about the graph.
