2. Background
New smart chip in RamCard expands campus access for students
Original plan was to phase in (4-5 Yrs.) distribution of the smart chip to new students as they attended orientation
Need for RamCard with the smart chip is coming quicker than imagined

3. Background Continued
New Computer Science Building will use a keyless access system for student labs. After-hours entry will require the new smart RamCard.
Other possible smart RamCard uses:
Library access during expanded hours
Restricted lab/building access
Entry to campus events
Transfort Bus pass

4. Continuing students will more likely choose to get a new RamCard if they do not have to pay for it

6. Scope & Schedule
Continuing students with an old RamCard can trade it in for an upgraded card
Students who lost or damaged their RamCard will have to pay for a replacement
Upgrades could be offered January through June 2009

7. Preparing for the rush Standard Office Hours
7:30 am to 5:00 pm
Monday through Friday
Expanded hours will be added to cover select evenings & weekends
Double the number of card production stations for the project

1. The project’s ability to benefit as many Colorado State University students as possible;
2. The project’s ability to effectively utilize the fee;
3. The project proposal is not funded through individual college Charges for Technology;
5. The project’s potential for direct student use;
6. The effort, thought, justification and clarity reflected in the project plan and presentation;
8. The level of financial co-sponsorship being contributed to the project by the University;
10. The costs and potential benefits of the project.

Last year, ASCSU Vice President Trevor Trout also offered his support for this proposal, as he advocated for the expansion of
Morgan Library Hours and looked forward to additional services using the new chip technology, such as Transfort and entrance to
Athletic events.
