1 How a Sack Lunch can change your life
Lake Tyler Baptist Church How a Sack Lunch can change your life John 6:1-14

2 John 6:1-14 After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. 2 And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick. 3 Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. 4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. 5 Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” 6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii[a] worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.” 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, 9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten. 14 When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!”

3 Are you in a Desolate Place?
How do you recognize a desolate place? Desolate places have no water Chris Vonda in The Wellspring of Life “The bloody organ we call the heart pumps life through our veins like Jesus offers hope for our souls. Are you thirsty for more?”

4 Without Christ, there is Never Enough
The Need is huge Have you ever come to the end of your resources and come up short? Philip is crunching the numbers John 6:6-7 Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” 6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii[a] worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.”

5 Without Christ there is Never Enough
Andrew flunked too “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” What would 200 denarii buy in Jesus’ day? About 4800 quarts of Barley, and quarts of wheat

6 Without Christ there is Never Enough
What is that in Today’s Dollars? Aren’t we all guilty from time to time about counting the cost without figuring God into the picture? Without Christ there is a huge void Many try to fill it with money and possessions

7

8 Without Christ there is Never Enough
Many try to fill it with Relationships We need other people. We were created that way "Generation Me has so much more than previous generations-- we are healthier, enjoy countless modern conveniences, and are better educated. But, Generation Me often lacks other basic human requirements: close relationships, a sense of community, a feeling of safety, a simple path to adulthood and the workplace." ~ But Shouldn't We be Happier Now?

9 Without Christ there is Never Enough
The Band Aid Solution of Human Relationship “Having been jaded by the institution of religion, this hunger for relationship drives people to do everything and anything for meaningful, lasting relationships in their lives. Single people may rush to marry, while unhappily married people sometimes have children in hopes of restoring their broken relationships. Others still, base their identity in their careers expecting to discover purpose and meaning in their successes.”

10 Without Christ there is Never Enough
Finally, works can’t even fill the void Work and they work and they work, but the void is still there. Why? Why can’t money, relationships and work fill the void? Because only Christ can fill that hole in your heart and lives.

11 With Christ the Cry is ‘More than Enough”
Jesus took the little boys lunch and fed everybody! Baskets were left over How did this happen? The Boy Gave He gave it all

12 With Christ the Cry is ‘More than Enough’
This little exchange opened the resources of heaven Are you holding something back today? Have you given Jesus your all? It doesn’t matter how big or small your lunch bag is Surrender and watch the resources of heaven open up!

13 Conclusion

14 Conclusion In whose hands will you place your life?
