1 Commit whatever grieves you into the gracious hands of him who never leaves you, who heav’n and earth commands. Who points the clouds their courses, whom winds and waves obey, he will direct your footsteps and find for you a way. [Sing to the Lord 506]

2 if you would prosper well; to make your work enduring,
2. On him be your reliance if you would prosper well; to make your work enduring, your eyes on him must dwell. God does not yield to sorrow and self-tormenting care. There is with him availing no pow’r save that of prayer.

3 most surely see and know both what is good and evil
3. Your truth and grace, O Father, most surely see and know both what is good and evil for mortal man below. According to your counsel you will your work pursue; and what your wisdom chooses your might will always do.

4 all things must serve your might; your ev’ry act is blessing,
4. Your hand is never shortened, all things must serve your might; your ev’ry act is blessing, your path is purest light. Your work no man can hinder, your purpose none can stay, since you, to bless your children, through all will make a way.

5 God helps in ev’ry trial, and makes you unafraid.
5. Hope on, my feeble spirit, and be now undismayed; God helps in ev’ry trial, and makes you unafraid. Await his time with patience, then shall your eyes behold the sun of joy and gladness his brightest beams unfold. Sing to the Lord 506 Public domain Text: Paul Gerhardt, 1656; tr. composite Tune: Johannes G. Bastiaans, 1812–1875; arr. J. van Weelden, alt.
