2 Figure 1 Combinatorial Signal Processing in the TGF-β Superfamily Ligand-Receptor Network The graphical representation shows the feasible interactions (undirected lines) between 14 representative ligands of the TGF-β superfamily and the 5 type II and 7 type I receptors. The resulting ligand-receptor complexes phosphorylate the regulatory Smads, which can then participate in transcription regulation of specific genes.
