Mechanization (use of machines) like the reaper had reduced farm labor needs and increased production.

Mechanization caused people to leave rural areas and move to cities for job opportunities

4 Industrialization Industrial (factories) development in cities created new labor needs.

5 Urbanization With nowhere to work in rural areas people moved to cities for job opportunities so cities grew.

6 Rapid industrialization in cities and mechanization on farms (use of machines) and urbanization (growth of cities) led to overcrowded immigrant neighborhoods and tenements.
