Chapter 3 Erosion and Deposition
By Maya DeMarco

Gravity Erosion Gravity is the force that pulls things downhill. The 4 types of gravity erosion are: Landslide Mudslide Creep Slump

Landslide Landslide- is the most destructive type of mass movement.

Mudslide Mudslide- is the rapid downhill movement that’s mixed with water, rocks, and soil.

Creep Creep is a very slow downhill movement.

Slump Slump is a mass of rocks and soil that suddenly slips down in one large mass.

Water Erosion Water erosion is the movement of soil by rivers and streams. It starts with raindrops that flow downhill. Gully Delta

Gully A gully is a big groove or a channel that is formed by water erosion.

Delta A delta is made from sediment that is deposited where a river flows into an ocean or a lake.

Glacier erosion Continental glacier Valley glacier
Glacier erosion is any large mass of ice that moves slowly over land. Continental glacier Valley glacier

Moraine A moraine is a ridge formed by the till deposited at the edge of a glacier.

Fjord A Fjord is formed when the level of the sea rises, filling a valley once cut by a glacier. This was not man-made This was also not man-made

Wave Erosion Headland Beach
Wave erosion is the land that is by impact, large waves can hit rocks along the shore with great force. Headland Beach

Headland Headland is a part of the shore that sticks out into the ocean.

Beach A beach is the area of wave-washed sediment along a coast.

Wind Erosion Wind is the weakest agent of erosion.
Wind is a powerful agent of erosion in the desert where there is little growing to hold down the sand. Wind Erosion forms: Loess Deposit Sand Dunes

Sand Dunes Sand dunes is a deposit of wind-blown sand.

Loess Deposit Loess Deposit is a wind-formed deposit made of fine particles of clay and silt.
