2 Simile A simile is a comparison of two unlike things using the words like or as. His feet were as big as boats.

5 Metaphor A metaphor states that one thing is something else. It is a comparison, but it does NOT use like or as to make the comparison. Her hair is silk.

8 How can I remember? One way to remember the difference is to learn the phrase: "a simile is similar or alike."
