Audit Commission – ‘Rising to the Challenge’ – it fits Workforce – how we use our workforce, use the asset, platform for other community work. The Future More HR sophistication More confidence More creativity – WT/RDS HR sophistication much greater now, that needs to be applied to retained in the same way as to all staff. Multiple contracts – WT/RDS Retained review looks old fashioned Confidence and ability to challenge structures but not principles of IPDS – that work is underway. CFOA’s Role Europe Working Time Directive Sharing Notable Practice Lobbying Government Partner/Advocate WT wake up call Spotted late – hidden behind junior doctors CFOA’s work is to spot those issues arising Portal and seminars like today Should be a partnership role Government has a role in promoting the societal value of RDS – increase esteem and ensure legislation and other government policy/initiative work is not against the RDS – avoid disincentives. 2 research projects around Retained. RDS Survey (which Michael Thewlis will cover) – identify current position/where we want to be with the management of the RDS. CLG, the Scottish F&R Advisory Unit/Scottish Resilience and NI FRS have jointly commissioned Employment Research and Consulting/ICM. Aims to identify demographic characteristics of personnel employed on RDS, range of job functions & duties. How RDS role has changed in recent years. Carried out in 2 parts; questionnaire to be self completed by RDS staff and organisational questionnaire for snr mgrs & RDS Liaison Officers Employers’ Toolkit – developed following a survey of over 1,000 local business in vicinity of RDS fire stations – for launch today.
